When she was younger, Amelia would never have dreamed that her family would wind up this complicated. Her parents always seemed happily married, she looked up to both of her parents, and her twin sister was her best friend. She had a large extended family, and everything was fine and dandy. Except that in Amelia's first year, she learned that she had no just one, but two older brothers. Brothers that her father never mentioned, brothers that her father tried to pretend never existed. Maddie was clearly handling the whole thing a lot better than Amelia was, though Amelia did her best to try to pretend like everything was alright for the sake of her mother and sister. She was slowly reaching the point where she felt as if she could barely stand to do that anymore.
Thus she came out to the Quidditch pitch. "It's empty, good. Hopefully no one'll bug me out here. I'll just do a few laps.." If anyone did overhear Amelia, they'd probably be caught off guard by her wording. Amelia generally wasn't the type to like an empty room or stadium, and she generally liked being around people the vast majority of the time. But she was upset and she knew it..and she didn't really want to take that out on anyone else, especially not her friends or family. She climbed onto her broom and soared up into the air. As she climbed up 10 feet, 20 feet, she could already feel the tension blowing away as the wind swept through her hair. She did several laps around the pitch, closing her eyes for a few seconds to just feel the wind rushing through her hair.
It was at that point that she spotted a figure on the ground. The flying clearly did her some good though, because she discovered that she did not particularly mind greeting whoever it was. Flying was almost always good for stress relief. As Amelia touched down, a smile crossed her features as she recognized just who was approaching. "Heya Allen! What are you doing here? Preparing for your next class?" There was a small part of Amelia that was disappointed that she hadn't been able to take flying lessons from her older cousin, but at least she could take Muggle Studies with him - even if it did only amount to a couple of classes per week. And now her little baby cousin, Allen's daughter, was attending Hogwarts as a first year!
Though Allen was family, he was her 'less complicated' family, as she'd come to call it. Not that she minded Matthew and Alfred..to the contrary, she loved them dearly. It was her father that she was having an especially hard time with as of late. What he'd done to her brothers was unacceptable! Amelia was so caught up in her frustration that she hardly noticed that she was digging the stick end of her broom so hard into the dirt that it was starting to drill a hole. Oops. She pasted another smile on her face, hoping he hadn't noticed

| YOU KNOW THAT I FOUGHT WITH MANY AND I WON FOR SOME WE STARED AT OURSELVES 'TIL OUR BREAKING POINT WE WEAR OUR BRUISES LIKE WATERMARKS THE LIFE AND THE DEATH OF THE WILD AT HEART | His class was over for the day, and the young professor couldn’t help but lift his arms over his head in a stretch as he walked from the professor’s tower changed from his robes (Thank the gods) into a light jacket, jeans, and his usual digger boots. With the rest of the day free, the Australian born man could tend to the school’s pitch like he did every afternoon. In reality, he would just check everything over, then sit with Rosco for a bit and feed him in private (He was quite a frightening eater) before going to wander the forbidden forest a bit to speak with the Centaur for a bit before going deeper. He had long made friends with the creatures, back when he was a student entering the forest under the cover of night and an invisibility cloak bought from Hogsmeade. But now, he found he didn’t need a cloak, or night to cover up his stroll. It was nice to still get to explore and track, to see old friends and enjoy the wildlife like he had in his youth. It was nostalgia-- But, before he could even consider leaving on another excursion, he had duties to attend to, and he knew he had to be back before classes ended because the Hufflepuff team reserved the pitch for practice that evening. Such a structured life was sometimes a challenge for such a free spirit. Walking through the gate, he stopped to gaze upon his trophies with a nostalgic smirk, pride filling him before he walked out into the sunlight of the green. It was then he noticed he was not alone. Hand moving to shield his green eyes from the sunlight, he smirked a bit. Amelia. Once she had landed her broom, Allen’s arms crossed as a smirk played on his lips, “How many times do I gotta tell ya, Cuz? I’m professor Cooper until the school day is over, Kiddo.” He would tilt his head some, no one was around to hear the slip-up, so she was in the safe zone, but he still needed to make sure to remind her. Giving way to a smile, his head tilted a bit as Rosco peered at the younger girl with a tilted head, “So, what class are you skippin’ to have a fly about?” He would ask, before his eyes slowly drifted down to the rivet she was making in the pitch, “Oi, oi. You’re gettin’ your broom dirty an’ ruinin’ my pitch. If somethin’s bugged ya up, y’know you can talk to me.” He would loosen his stance as they spoke, looking toward his younger cousin with a touch of concern. She was, after all, his uncle’s little princess. Not that he ever liked the bastard, but his mum had insisted he be nice to the family-- being that they were high up in the English Magical Society. A nobility that ran through his veins, even if he was considered more Cooper than Fitzgerald.

Oh pshaw. Amelia greeted her cousin in a friendly fashion and what did she get? 'Call me Professor Cooper'. Amelia rolled her eyes, but she had a smile on her face. She didn't particularly care about calling him Professor Cooper, honestly. She didn't mind doing so, nor did she take what he was saying all that seriously. While she honestly could understand keeping up the whole professionalism thing if they were actually in class, but the two were literally alone on the Quidditch Pitch at that moment in time. It wasn't like Amelia or Allen, sorry, Professor Cooper would be getting any odd looks for their familiar way of addressing one another like they would if they were in the middle of a class or something.
In fact, a mischievous smirk of her own met his smirk. "Fine, whatever you say Professor Allen. Or maybe I should call you Kyle if we're going all official. Professor Kyle Allen Cooper." She wasn't trying to be a pain in his backside, really - and if he really did start to get genuinely irritated by this, she would stop. But for now she was enjoying teasing him, just as he was presumably enjoying teasing her. Until she met her actual older brothers, Allen was the closest thing she and Maddie really had to one. And even he wasn't around all that much at first, considering he'd gone down to Australia for several years before he came back up. Though they'd at least been able to keep up with him by owl.
..alright, messing up his pitch and betraying the fact that she was stressed out about something in one fell swoop? That wasn't in the plan. Amelia immediately removed her broomstick from the dirt. "Oops my bad, I got a little distracted. I was thinking about schoolwork. You know how things are with Potions." Which actually wasn't entirely false - she was worried about her Potions grade, she was just a lot more worried about other things.
She also indirectly answered Allen's question, as it was Potions that she'd ditched in order to come out here and have a fly around. She did feel a bit bad about doing that to her head of house, especially since she liked the woman..she just didn't like what the woman taught, and she was feeling way too antsy to sit around in class today. She'd either have to get up and pace several laps around the room, or she'd probably wind up snapping at someone. Really, doing laps around the Quidditch Pitch was best for everyone

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] "Fine, whatever you say Professor Allen. Or maybe I should call you Kyle if we're going all official. Professor Kyle Allen Cooper."[break][break] That smirk he held wavered to forced. That name. The name his father had given him after a man he held no love for-- his grandfather was a great wizard, loved by all… But to young Kyle he had been harsh and tough, driving the boy away from him. He had been a rambunctious boy, sure, a handful and a half expected to sit still, shut up, and just be a piece of furniture unless addressed by the man-- and he had to bare this asshole’s name. [break][break] And then she spoke of potions and being worried-- yet he knew better. He quickly crossed his arms and leant in a bit before shaking his head a few times. Reaching out, two loose fists pressed to the girl’s head and he playfully gave her temples noogies, “Oi, Oi. You know I hate that name, y’ankle biter. Now then, you know you can’t lie to me, I changed your nappies when you were wee.” He would drop to a kneel and look at the hole carefully, nodding that it was an easy fix and the pitch had seen much worse in it’s time-- some of it’s hidden scars caused by himself. [break][break] Pushing himself to stand, he crossed his arms and sighed a bit, “If I had to take a gander, I would take a guess yer angry about th’ family. Mum is none too pleased with Uncle Marcus sense Mattie and Alfie we’re discovered.” He would tilt his head some and smile warmly, “I can understand how you feel betrayed and hurt by it, eh? Look, how ‘bout we go ‘n get some butterbeer, an’ you and I have a talk ‘bout it, eh? You look like y’ gotta lot on your shoulders, let's get that all unloaded.”[break][break] He would pat her back and hum a bit, “Not to worry, I won’t tell mum so whatcha say. I’m not a Fitzgerald after all. Got no business in th’ family.” He would grin brightly and tap her forehead, “Student teacher confidentiality, yeah?”[break][break] He loved his wee cousins, Amelia and Madeline had both been princesses as he remembered, always given the best of the world and never to spoilt by it all. He could understand why she was upset, if he were in her shoes, he would be just as cross. But, talking always helped with things. Always made things easier. “And if you need help with potions, I’m th’ last bloke to ask. I flunked it in my OWLs and NEWTs.” He laughed as he motioned to the girl to follow him from the pitch, “I have some butterbeer in m’ office. Common.”[break]

Oh no, she'd gone too far. She knew it the moment that he brought out the dreaded noogies. Though she tried to back away, he got her. She tried to wriggle out of his grasp but he still managed a few noogies before she was able to push herself away. A few giggles escaped her lips in the meantime. Her face turned positively scarlet as Allen mentioned changing her diapers and she knew that she had to change the subject before he started blurting out all sorts of stories. They looked to be alone now, but who knew who might be lurking nearby? She didn't want anyone to overhear any embarrassing stories from the time when she was a baby..and anyone who knew that Amelia and Allen were cousins would know that such stories coming from his mouth were likely true.
The laughter died on Amelia's lips when Allen guessed correctly what was eating at her. "I'm fine, everything's perfectly fine, Maddie and I are daddy's little girls, the proper heirs. He's perfectly happy with the arrangement, so why shouldn't we be? Everything's all hunky-dory!" Except that it wasn't, because Amelia could barely disguise the bitterness in her tone, the anger, despite the fact that she realized she was actually in a position of privilege..and as much as she loathed what her father was doing, she was angry with herself as well. She felt guilty for having a happy childhood with two parents who loved her and a twin sister who was like a best friend when neither Alfred nor Matthew had that.
She didn't really want to go to Allen's office and talk about all of this. She shouldn't have even stopped doing laps around the Quidditch pitch. The only thing that gave pause to Amelia's increasingly frantic thoughts was the mention of butterbeer. Ugh, Allen knew her too well - The way to her heart was always through her stomach, whether it be food or drink. "You're bribing me with butterbeer. I can't believe it. I should go to the headmaster." Though even as she said it, a small smile crossed her features at the obvious joke. Even the attempt at a smile could not eclipse the pained expression that remained on her face though. The fact that she'd referred to it as a bribe though..that had to mean something.
It did, of course. As Allen motioned for her to follow him, she actually did. He'd better actually keep up his end of the bargain too..she was only going with him for the butterbeer. Or at least that was what she'd tell her stuff in her stubbornness. In all honesty, she needed someone to talk to, someone..somewhat impartial, yet close enough to the action to understand what was gong on without Amelia having to launch into a full exposition. Someone like Allen, honestly

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] A laugh ripped through the elder man, looking back a Amelia's loud and angry threat. It was very much an empty thread and he knew it. Walking into the sports office, he would cast a glance back to the girl behind him, holding the door open for her as a grin played across his lips, “Now, little princess. If you run off to the headmaster, I might get in trouble and lil’ miss Keily’ll be yellin’ at you for it.” He winked once, “An’ you don’t wanna make Keily cry now do ya?” if anyone was sassy and strong-willed in his family, it was that girl. He loved his princess, but she was sassy and fearless, would stand toe to toe with him now. What had happened to his little daddie’s girl, he would never know.[break][break] Rosco clung to a tree branch in the office, hugging onto the bark as he watched the man who raised him walk in with a smaller blond. The Koala look-alike shimmed around the trunk of his tree and started the crawl out to the man as his owner moved to the magically enchanted muggle mini-fridge he kept under his desk (students were normally not allowed in his office so he could get away with it) and pulled out two butterbeers and set one out for Amelia. He reached up to pluck up his drop bear and grin a bit, “Amelia, you remember Rosco now, aye? Rosco’s gotten bigger since you last saw ‘im. He’s heavy now, but still a daddie’s boy.” He chuckled as the marsupial settled into digging his capped flesh cutting claws into his shirt and into his shoulder slightly-- which was quite used to his claws by now but he had to keep the kids safe if they ever met Rosco (which many had)-- and grinned at the grey creature, “You gonna jus’ hang out there and stare, mate?”[break][break] Rosco would peer at the young woman from over his owner’s left shoulder, as Allen turned his attention back to Amelia, “Now then, talk t’ me. Y’know that I ain’t gonna tell anyone anythin’.” He sat on the desk and peered at his cousin, sipping his own butterbeer with a soft smile. The sweet drink was nice, seeing as he rarely had it-- he prefered real beer, not sodas, but this magical soda was good. “I get it, your papa did somethin’ wrong years ago… But how would y’feel if I was mad at you about somethin’ you did when y’were an ankle bittah? It’s somethin’ to be angry about, yeah. But if’n your mama knows, it was probably somethin’ they wrongly kept from ya. I have a feelin’ Matthieu wasn’t even known, seein’ as he’s not even in the family registry-tree thin’. I had to register Keily, I didn’ see him anywhere, but Alfred was there… So he was probably know abou’ by your mama. Doesn’ mean he is considered family, but all kids have t’ be tracked. Even my kids even though I’mma Cooper.”[break][break] He shrugged and took a long sip, before looking at Amelia with a small smile, “He loves ya, and would do anythin’ for ya. I know this sucks, but maybe you should talk t’ him about Alfred?” He would tilt his head some, “Maybe it was outta his hands? There’s a lot ‘bout the family that’s not that pleasant, I’m sure y’know now, yeh?” He would stand and walk to the girl, dropping to kneel on her level, “If y’wanna come home with me at Christmas, however, you’re welcome. Keily and I are goin’ to Sydney to track a water dragon that shows up every summah. We can bring Maddie and Matt and Alfred if y'want. That’d be cool, yeah?”[break]

..man, Allen was good at this game. He even pulled out the ace up his sleeve, her adorable little cousin Keily. No, she didn't want to upset Keily. Amelia nodded in gratitude as Allen held the door open for her, eyeing Rosco almost immediately. Allen was right - The drop bear had gotten bigger than she remembered him being. Though part of her wanted to reach out and pet it, she kept her hands to herself. If she'd learned anything from her older cousin, it was that she shouldn't necessarily hold out her hands in front of creatures and expect that to go well. Even if they were friendly creatures, that didn't mean that they wouldn't feel threatened by someone that they didn't know as well. Besides, Rosco seemed perfectly content just to 'hang there and stare' as Allen put it.
Amelia frowned at what Allen was saying. While he made a few points..he also didn't know the whole story, at least how she'd experienced it, and she saw fit to set the record straight. "I did try talking to him about it when he found out. He pretended that my imagination was running away with me. He still hasn't acknowledged that he even has other children." Admittedly, she hadn't looked at it from her father's point of view, but she found it hard to do so when, in her opinion, her father never even tried to see it from Alfred's point of view or Matthew's point of view. Perhaps this assumption was untrue, but Amelia had yet to see anything that would counter it.
He loved her and would do anything for her. Really? Then why try her like a child and pretend that she'd imagined the encounters with her very real half brothers? She'd tried to talk to him and he wouldn't talk. As far as she was concerned, the ball was in his court and he could make the next move. "A water dragon? With you, Keily, Maddie, Al, and Mattie? I'm in!" Amelia grinned, not even thinking twice about her answer.
She'd likely need permission from her parents, given that she was only fourteen..but if she traveled with Allen, she couldn't see why they would say no. And the offer did have a positive effect on Amelia - Whereas she'd been sitting with her arms crossed and a stubborn scowl on her face, she was now positively beaming. It might only work as a temporary solution, but it was a temporary solution that involved them getting together and doing something as a family outside of school. Of course she was excited

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] The man sat back some, tapping his lip with his finger as he had a long though, “There’s gotta be more to th’ story, ‘Melia. You just gotta understand tha’ sometimes adults are stupid. They do stupid things and act stupid.” He would sigh and look upward some, trying to understand the situation fully, “Honestly, ‘m at a loss. But my suggestion is t’ focus on your studies, an' on those who matter to you.” He would lean forward, then watch as Rosco moved from his shoulder to the desk. The drop bear looked towards the blonde girl, Allen’s green eyes watching the creature carefully as it crossed the wood, and lowered itself into Amelia’s lap. Within minutes, he was curled against her tummy. Allen couldn’t help but smile a bit. “Gentle, ‘melia. If you make any sudden moves I can’t save you from his claws like this. But looks like the bugger jus’ wantsta cuddle ya.”[break][break] He would sit back some, still keeping a careful eye on the Koala-looking creature with a hum on his lips, “How ‘bout I talk to ya mum about you and Maddie joinin’ me this summah. You let me do the talkin’, yeah?” He would cross his arms and tilt his head some, “Maybe while we’re in Oz, we can go do some sight-seein' and you lot can try some meat pie with tomato sauce on it. Mmm, I would kill for a meat pie right now…” He would sigh and smile at the girl warmly, “I’ll send yer mum an owl in a few days askin’ permission, give her a few months t’ stew on it.”[break][break] Shifting back to sip as his butterbeer, he couldn’t help but muse, “Tell me, tho, how’s th’ two sets of Fitzgerald twins doin? Are ye’ all gettin’ on well? Gonna ever talk Maddie int’ joining th’ Gryffindor team? Make it a full sweep?” He chuckled as he watched his younger cousin, “I think she would make a great seeker, aye?” He shook his head, “An’ how’s your schoolin’? Am I gonna see you in Muggle studies?” Allen knew the truth of the matter-- He probably wouldn’t. Most witches and wizards didn’t give two guppy tails about his class. He enjoyed it nonetheless. It was an easy pass for muggle-born students, and it was fun to confuse students with what objects were. [break]

When the drop bear went from staring at her to lowering itself into Amelia's lap, she was mildly surprised..though she knew well enough not to do anything too crazy. She was no Care of Magical Creatures expert, but she knew that most creatures like Rosco only attacked when they felt threatened, and the key to not being attacked meant making certain that the creature in question felt safe enough to let its guard down. The fact that it was domesticated enough that Allen essentially kept it as a pet helped matters. Amelia was careful not to make any sudden moves, and though she often had a hard time sitting still, the animal sitting in her lap was able to hold enough of her attention that she did not have to fidget too much yet. She did reach out and run her hand gently a couple of times through Rosco's hair.
Amelia grinned when Allen indicated to let him do the talking to her mother. "That's probably best, ask her right before and she might freak! But if she has some time to sit on it, and for us to keeping bugging her about it and lower her reservations..I think we can do it. Especially if we recruit Maddie." Amelia grinned at the thought. They might want to mention this idea to the others, of course. Especially Maddie, as if Amelia was attending she certainly would want Maddie to be there with her. Even if she sometimes had to coax Maddie out, being that she was generally less adventurous than Amelia? It was worth it, and from what Amelia could tell Maddie usually enjoyed herself in the end anyway. And on the flip side, Maddie could often calm Amelia when she needed to take a step back.
The next thing Allen brought up was something that Amelia actually considered herself. She ought to try to convince Maddie to join the Quidditch team. He also asked about her schooling. "I think she'd be good at most of the positions, but you're probably right about seeker! And yep, you'll be seeing me in Muggle Studies. Can we do a class on comic books?" It did seem as though Maddie had the right build for a seeker, though there was a small part of Amelia that wanted to play beater alongside her twin.
As for Muggle Studies..well, Amelia wasn't getting her hopes high about a comic book class, though she supposed she could try to recruit Alfred into convincing Allen. Two were better than one! She was already starting to go through strategies in her head, getting a tad ahead of herself. She hadn't even heard Allen's answer after all! She hardly needed to put any effort into convincing him if he was already considering it

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] The conversation was going swimmingly, Allen smiling and nodding several times as they laid out plans-- for an aussie excursion, for getting Maddie to play-- but when Amelia asked ”Can we do a class on comic books?" Allen felt his internal record skip. On one hand, Allen mused, that sounded utterly fucking awesome. He loved comics, from the action packed american ones, to the cult classical Japanese ones. Yet, as a teacher, he felt like… That would not be a good use of time. Humming, the professor looked a bit thoughtful, his head tilting a bit.[break][break] “Honestly, as much as I love ta have a class on Comic Books, I don’ know if they would be appropri’te fo’ class. I have so much ’m required to teach, ‘Melia. Bu’, tell ya what. I’ll see if I can squeeze ‘em in near th’ end o’ th’ school year.” He would cross his arms and look the girl in the eyes, “If’n you go an’ tell th’ other students tha’ if we can ge’ through th’ curriculum quickly, then I’ll teach about hobbies an’ shit. Vidiya games, books, comics, movie genres, telly shows… Y’name it, I’ll teach it.” He nodded a few times and tilted his head some.[break][break] “Bu’ only if yer whole class is passin’, and if we finish everythin’ early. Deal?”[break][break] Allen hoped this would be incentive enough to have his students get good grades, but he was sure the pure-blooded pupils would even understand what these things were-- which was a damn shame. “So, yer gonna work on Maddie, eh? I’ll get tha’ owl pinned to yer mum, an’ maybe y’could get me Mattie an’ Al’s parents addresses so I could send them owls too, aye?”[break][break] Rosco, while the Aussie spoke, curled into Amelia’s lap as he was softly pet. It was clear he was pleased to have the attention, which was what he sought. It had been awhile since someone other than Kyle had given him any attention, the drop bear yawning happily as he nuzzled into the girl’s warm tummy. [break][break] “Oi, Rosco, y’rat. Stop gettin’ comfortable, ‘Melia’s gotta go t’class soon.” Allen would complain a bit, feeling slightly betrayed-- but not really. The bear had always prefered women to men, sans him, and would always cuddle up to them. “Bloody droggo.” Allen would complain, shifting to stand so he could fetch the bear before it fell asleep and clung to Amelia’s legs.[break][break]

Upon hearing that Allen might not be able to do a class on comic books, Amelia immediately frowned. But then Allen gave her hope that he could possibly squeeze comic books into class after all. While it wouldn't be an entire class devoted to comic books, she could understand why Allen would have to get his required curriculum out of the way first. She had to admit that his idea of a class devoted to hobbies at the end of the term would probably be the best option to squeeze it in..and she was a fan of just about all of the other mediums that he suggested mentioning in a hobby class as well! Part of her wanted to help him plan it out..but then she got distracted by Rosco. This was perhaps for the best, as she probably shouldn't interfere with his class planning anyway.
"You'll probably want to tell the rest of the class about it then. I can make sure that my grades are good, but I can't get the rest of the class to get their asses into gear without some sort of incentive. And yeah..I'll work on Maddie." Not that she thought it would be all that difficult to convince Maddie to do it. It would involve spending time with their family after all. The only way she could see it posing a problem was if their parents said no..and if she had Allen on her side, that certainly helped. It would be even more helpful if she had Maddie on her side, but she honestly wasn't sure what Maddie would think of the arrangement, and wouldn't know until the next time she met up with her sister (because she would obviously tell her sister about it the next time she saw her!).
The next request was for Alfred and Matthew's parents' (or, rather, mothers') addresses. She figured she could get that out of them with little issue, though she hoped Allen would have a bird that could travel long distance. "You have an owl that can travel far away I hope? I'm pretty sure Alfie's mother's in the U.S. and Mattie's mother's in Canada. You could borrow one if not?" Of course, it didn't matter yet because Amelia didn't have an actual address to provide her cousin with.
She giggled when Allen informed Rosco not to get too comfortable, her grin shifting toward something more like a pout when Allen proceeded to mention that she'd have to head back to class soon. Amelia's attitude toward class, of course, largely depended on which class she had next on her schedule. She was always up for Astronomy class, which was her all time favorite..though of course Astronomy class was rarely during the day, especially if they were looking through their telescopes
