One thing that was nice about the Ravenclaw dorms - Keeping to oneself and having their nose buried in a book was seen as more acceptable than it would be in other houses. That was not to say that Ravenclaw was full of bookworms or that Ravenclaw did not have its share of people who talked loudly in the Common Room or got up to crazy antics, but it did mean that Natalya generally received fewer questions about what she was doing or unwanted conversation attempts while she was in the Ravenclaw Common Room. Or perhaps this was because her housemates knew her better than other houses in the school and thus knew that attempting unwanted conversation with Natalya might result in one getting their head bitten off (figuratively, of course..it was her sister who was the half vampire).
It wasn't even that Natalya was that big of a bookworm, she merely preferred not just talking to anyone and everyone. She had her reasons for keeping to herself, and preferred to have some control over who she spoke to and when. It was one thing for someone she knew at least semi well to speak with her, but if someone out of the blue opted to strike up a conversation with her? She'd likely question their motives, even if they were completely innocent. She did notice that a couple of younger students were glancing at her weirdly though. She thought she even heard one of them asking if she ever talked to anyone else or just kept to herself all of the time. Alright, time to prove a couple of little idiots wrong..and that they shouldn't talk about someone so loudly so close to them.
Natalya could strike up conversations of her own on occasion, though. She wasn't averse to it, and actually preferred it that way as it gave her more of a semblance of control over the conversation. The ball was in her court and she could do with it what she pleased. It was a feeling she never felt much at home. "Hello Elizaveta, how are you doing today?" ..Elizaveta was someone that she might almost consider a friend, if she had to be honest.
..actually, it was their age difference that made Natalya question it, and it was more because she wasn't sure if Elizaveta would consider a fourteen year old to be a friend. Elizaveta had helped her in her earlier years with a couple of subjects that she'd struggled more with, and while Natalya insisted on being a stubborn mule at first..she gradually came around and came to respect Elizaveta. Certainly more than she respected a lot of others, at least. And no, she wasn't starting this conversation just to get back at a couple of younger students - though it certainly helped to provide an incentive for something she was usually more hesitant to do. Perhaps there was a silver lining to this after all
